Kentuck

We made the drive to Alabama to check out the Kentuck Festival yesterday. Wow. What a beautiful fest, full of fun folk art of all sorts, nestled under tall pines in Kentuck Park, near Tuscaloosa, AL. Imagine the slight scent of fall campfires, slurping lemonade, wandering amidst a circus-worthy splay of art from all over the country, and kind folk behind it all. After the kettle corn afternoon snack, I was toast, took a nap under the trees, amidst the hum of happy art-lovers, and woke to sweet cajun music drifting downhill. Best bet - unique true folk art from the back yards of america's real people. Most unique treat - getting your Royale Corndog portrait drawn in Chris Antieu's "photobooth" - yourself, adorned with crown and corndog in hand. something to smile about.

Saturday was a good day

The Bywater Art Market was a great way to spend the day on Saturday. The weather was beautiful and it felt good to be a new orleanian. thanks to all who came out and said hello.

If you missed it... see me this Saturday at the Art Market of New Orleans at Palmer Park, or next month at Bywater, the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

Ode to White Paint

you reflect and gleam
so confident and unabashed
in all your pale purity.
i spread you with pallette knife
and blend you with brush.

thank you for your unwavering character,
your bold blond seasons,
your masking and show-through.

i am in search of you now,
on a sunday in new orleans,
where a day at the studio is wasted without you.

painting above by faithful blogger artist Duane Kaiser
I love his little paintings, particularly the life-savers roll and the pb&j sandwich. thanks for making art Duane.

cupcake

Yesterday I was in need of a sweet pick-me-up to swing me into fall, so I made these red velvet cupcakes. Aren't they cute? I think they worked. Today is crisp, cool and absolutely beautiful. pumpkin carving here i come. :)

Honestly...

I've been way too nervous about this blog for far too long.... and it's prevented me from posting at all! So, in response to my analysis paralysis.... here goes. Which now means, anything goes, I guess. Check back. I'll be letting you into my little world.
