The Year of (just barely) Believing

I began this year with a project I decided to call the "Year of Believing". It began as an idea... about faith. As if, I could chart my course for the year (and make it good one) with a hefty dose of faith in the unseen. Each month I created a small work on paper, and posted it here to my blog and made it available as a print on my etsy shop. Some readers got on board from the start and began collecting the Year in fits and starts as each month's metaphor resonated. I began our journey high in the sky, a place of dreams, somewhat unknown. The only way to go from there was back down to earth, and so we traveled past the clouds, the birds, the tree-tops and blankets and beds and oceans, fences and rivers, shoes and grass, underground and surfacing in a forest of dreams. I have to thank you all for joining me on this journey from sky to earth and back home to ourselves. It was not without its struggles, and moments of just barely believing, or not believing at all, except for the inevitable fall. But somewhere along the way, I feel like we sprouted wings... invisible faith in things unseen. I can't help but say a little grace that faking it, turned into making it.
So, it is with great pleasure that I invite you to share with me, as the originals from this collection are made available for the first time. This is an opportunity to view the entire journey in order from January to December, on a gallery wall, with white mats and frames, and the shiny lights of promise overhead, before we all drift right into January 2011, starting again.

Art: 8.5" x 8.5", 3" mat plus white wood frame, $400 each
(April, June, July have already sold. Thank you collectors!)

Here's the invite:
"Denouement"
Du Mois Gallery

4921 Freret St. New Orleans, LA

Opening Reception: Tomorrow, December 11, 2010

5:00 - 8:00pm

Also worth noting: I am entirely honored to be showing alongside Kathleen Robbins, whose photographic series "Into the Flatland" is the main attraction of this show, as part of PhotoNola. I suggest reading her beautiful artist statement here and then come to the opening to view these beautiful photos in person. Don't miss this and just see them online. When it comes to excellent work, there is no substitute for the real thing. Large format, squarish color photos, white frames, whole heart.

December Dreaming

From the series called "The Year of Believing"!

I am releasing one limited edition print each month in the year 2010. Each is limited to an edition of 5. They are available for $100 each, and only during the month of it's release.

DECEMBER (pictured above)
"December Dreaming"
The bookend of the year is like a forest filled with our experiences, our triumphs and failures, bits of ourselves. When the year comes to a close, we say goodnight to bygones and wake up in a new year, with the dream hangover of the past and the possibility of a sparkly new future. This piece concludes our journey from sky to earth and back to ourselves, and what a journey it has been. 2010. The Year of Believing.

November Treasure

From the series called "The Year of Believing"!

I am releasing one limited edition print each month in the year 2010. Each is limited to an edition of 5. They are available for $100 each, and only during the month of it's release.

NOVEMBER (pictured above)
"November Treasure"
November ushers us right into winter and the holidays, and while we scurry about, our hibernation tendencies prompt us to gather our treasures in a safe place. I like the idea of having a treasure hole within each of us, a place to fill with reminders and memories that make us comforted, warm and happy. A type of place you can take with you anywhere.

Slow Tour: Part 4

It has been one month since my solo show came down from the walls of Sibley Gallery, but the Slow Tour continues and finishes here on my blog. A few days before I went to take the show down, I was struck with a melancholy feeling, not wanting it to end. How do you fully experience your first solo show? How do you not take it for granted? There were times I simply walked by the gallery and peeked in the windows. Other times I drove by slow at night, to see it glowing quietly behind the glass. Alas, I was reminded of the old saying about all good things. So, I chose to stretch it out here on my blog with the Slow Tour. An opportunity for those near and far to experience the show, as closely as possible to actually being there. And a chance to immortalize the body of work, as a cohesive expression - a wide sweeping gesture made in a moment in time. Thank you for sharing it with me. Below is the fourth and final installment in the Slow Tour. I hope you have enjoyed its complexities. The last (but certainly not least) room in the gallery housed more stitched pieces, drawings, photography, an inspiration wall, and a video piece, which was shown intimately on a small tv screen in a dark little corner.
"To Have, To Hold", 13" x 14", silk applique on vintage linen, $450
"Lavender Scent Box", 16" x 20" x 4", dried lavender in wooden box with curtains, SOLD

"Daybreak", digital C-print, edition of 10, 11" x 14", $700

On the wall between the windows in the back room, I installed a wall of lists, scraps, sketches and inspirations. I transported this wall and mounted it in the gallery exactly as it hung in my studio during the making of this collection.
