By the Light of the Moon

I took the opportunity this past Saturday to do something I've been meaning to do more of: Get outside myself. This version provided by Canoe and Trail Adventures, in the form of a Moonlight Canoe Trip in the Manchac Wetlands. My cohort and I set out and took in the sunset along winding byways glimmering with new green along the banks. A little sunset lunch and the paddle back out was lit by the light of the moon, stars, and a few bright planets.
I like to learn the names of things, like Cypress, Tupelo, marsh, swamp, and get into a rhythm of long strokes and peripheral vision. The night was capped with spotlights on some red alligator eyes and I spent part of the trip back just laying flat in the boat, with a fish-eye view of the night sky, and the moon, oh the moon, which I promise not to take for granted. Goodnight Moon.
